Gourdan Cumberpatch, the Saga

Have you ever seen the dancing pumpkin man gif? Well Ben has, and decided to go to a Halloween party as the gif. This led to the creation of Gourdan Cumberpatch and a love story.

The “concept” launch

Halloween, 2019, such an innocent. Everyone was coughing on each other with delight. It was that October Ben was inspired by the dancing pumpkin man gif and tiny faces on jack-o-lanterns. Combing the two, Ben went to a Halloween party where a photoshoot quickly happened. The tiny little face delighted folks, and was sadly forgotten about for a year…

Pumpkins deserve love, too.

But as luck had it (or didn’t in Ben’s case), Ben was single in October, 2020. He was on Hinge, genuinely trying to date- whatever that meant during the early stages of pandemic, and hated it. A friend sent him a text saying “Do you remember these photos from last year?”. “Of course!”, said Ben. How could he not? His friend had 6 photos from the photoshoot, just the perfect number to create a Hinge profile (screenshots below). And so Ben did. He filled the profile with pumpkin-based jokes and created the character Gourdan Cumberpatch. He quickly matched with Madison hotties and those people said the profile delighted them, too. However, Hinge did not like fun and deleted the profile within 48 hours. But Gourdan longed…

Gourdan’s true love

Cinderella has pumpkin carriage- essentially humans riding pumpkins, but this love story has a pumpkin wanting to ride humans. Gourdan searched and searched for love. He had until the end of October to find love or he would be turned into a single-man in his 30’s. Fortunately, his creator, knew some willing friends who would want to be fake engaged and film it, because we had nothing better to do during a pandemic. Ansley and Tom shot and filmed the engagement ruse and produced the videos and photos below. When Ben shared these photos on Facebook, some of his aunts and coworkers thought he was actually engaged. Ben wondered what they thought of him. Did they think he’d get engaged with a joke? Yeah, probably.
